‘It’s about knowing and choosing where to place your attention.’

For a long time I didn’t know what I wanted to do.

I did think I want my own company. And I knew that I had to love it. I wanted it to be about being better - about better food, better living, better relationships, because that's always been my striving.

When I went into a health food store in Boston I thought ‘wow.’ 

This is people who want better. They want better food. They’re going for treatments I'd never heard of. They don't want to go and get a pill or a drug from the doctor. They want to make themselves better. That’s how I knew what I wanted to do.

I didn’t know anything about business or having a health food store

I went to Wild Oats on Westbourne Grove and asked the owner for a job. He asked if I had any experience and I told him ‘no.’ He said he’d come on the shop floor and manage it and I could follow him for three months, then he’d see if I was up to the job. (I was!) But the best thing about it all was he was extending downstairs. He said, this is going to be the organic room.  I was like ‘what’s organic?’ So I started learning and I learned so much on that job.

Thoughts are not positive and negative thoughts can ruin our lives and ruin our potential.

A thought is not a fact. A thought is a thought. A belief is a belief.  But it’s not real. Even if 2 million people believe it, it's still not a fact. So, if you can get past your thoughts and there's work that I do about getting to your core self, your true self, that is the truth of who you are.

The problem is we're afraid we're not that person

We have all kinds of negative thoughts about who we might be and fears about who we might be. And we project this into the world. But this isn’t the core us.

It’s all about managing the day to day so that you’re on purpose and on track.

We have so much going on, we're just reacting to what's shouting the loudest. But what we really need to do is be in touch with everything that's going on in our world and think, I actually need to spend half an hour with my daughter today, or I actually just need to take 2 hours and write that report for work. But it's about knowing and choosing where you need to place your attention when you’re constantly bombarded.
